The scourge of AIDS

A recent scandal in Romania reveals what many had already known: many prostitutes are infected with AIDS.

Here’s the news:

Potrivit reprezentanţilor Direcţiei de Sănătate Publică (DSP) Constanţa, mai mulţi bărbaţi au venit, în ultimele zile, la un centru al Fundaţiei Baylor Marea Neagră pentru a fi testaţi HIV, iar în unele cazuri, la consilierea care se face obligatoriu după testare, unii dintre ei ar fi declarat că ar fi avut raporturi sexuale neprotejate cu o minoră.

Pentru unul dintre aceşti pacienţi testul a fost "reactiv", dar asta nu înseamnă că persoana respectivă este infectată cu virusul HIV.

"Faptul că la testarea rapidă rezultatul a ieşit reactiv nu înseamnă obligatoriu că persoana în cauză este infectată cu virusul HIV. Trebuie făcute alte două testări - testul Elisa sau testul Western-Blot, acesta din urmă fiind sigur în proporţie de 98 la sută", a declarat directorul DSP Constanţa, Constantin Dina.

Which means that quite a few men have recently requested to be tested for HIV after hearing that a 13 year old prostitute from Constanta was found to be likely infected with HIV in a preliminary test. Furthermore, her two pimps were arrested after the girl just managed to escape:

Săptămâna trecută, poliţiştii constănţeni au reţinut doi bărbaţi pentru proxenetism, după ce s-a stabilit că aceştia au exploatat sexual mai multe fete, printre care şi o fată în vârstă de 13 ani.

Potrivit anchetatorilor, fata a fost sechestrată într-un apartament din Constanţa şi a fost obligată să se prostitueze în folosul celor doi, în perioada mai - iulie 2012.

Minora a reuşit să scape şi a mers să anunţe autorităţile. De asemenea, fata de 13 ani a fost dusă de către tatăl ei pentru a fi testată pentru prezenţa HIV-SIDA, rezultatul fiind pozitiv.

Cei doi bărbaţi au fost prezentaţi Tribunalului Constanţa cu propunere de arestare preventivă pentru proxenetism, lipsire de liberate şi loviri sau alte violenţe, în formă continuată, primind mandate de câte 29 de zile de arest preventiv.

She’s been held captive and forced into prostitution in May-July 2012. It’s very sad to learn that it only took 3 months for her to become infected with HIV. Then again, since young girls are not fully developed, they are more likely to sustain injuries when having sex and natural barriers to be penetrated by infection. Men who think that a girl is too young to be infected and thus decide against using protection are actually exposing themselves to a greater risk than when having unprotected sex with mature women.

Though widely covered by Romanian bloggers, this last piece of info is conspicuously absent even from the coverage of supposedly “senior” bloggers, such as Arhi and Zoso.
